Negative side to Influence

if we are to look at the beatles interms of there unfluence on society we must look at a negative aspect also. by this i mean there are several theorys which link the beatles white album (on of there best) the that of the murders carried out by Charles Manson. Manson apparently thought that the beatles were speaking to him through there music telling him what to do. he used there songs and changed there meaning, an example being

Blackbird singing in the dead of night/ Take these broken wings and learn to fly/ All your life/ You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Manson thought that the Beatles were urging black people to arise and revolt against the white establishment.

a quote from the wonder that is the West Wing comes to mind here, "you cant legislate over act of madman toby.." which essentialy Manson was, there is no way the beatles were talking to him through there music, if you think how many millions of people listend to there music, but this is an important issue that I will come back to in later updates.

Why is The Beatles music still influencing artists more than 30 years after they split up? What influenced their music growing up in late 1940s and 1950s Liverpool the type of music they listened to, rock n roll was a moral panic, The Beatles became a moral panic ain all the stood for, there music changed and shaped a generation I want to try to find out why.

Outline of the initial theoretical perspective used to discuss the elements of the project. (you will integrate theories from the 2nd half of the course later)

Moral panics, culture industry )Vietnam war was a big influence on john Lennon possibly more than the others in the fact he sent back his MBE in a gesture that he believed it wrong. Although the queen’s response was to send back her Beatles records to HMV. Looking at why there music was banned by the BBC an example being a day in the life Sub cultures also may be relevant here.
